For nearly three years, Briefing Book has brought you wide-ranging, accessible analysis of economic policy issues from experts with experience in both research and policy. That combination of experiences is relatively rare, and the pool of people who have it can be hard to break into. As valuable as it can be to share their insights, our collective understanding of the economy can also benefit from drawing from a broader set of people and backgrounds.
To that end, we want to help interested researchers gain exposure to policy work. Academic and policy writing are very different, and the best way to turn skill at the former into facility with the latter is to practice. Ultimately, research and policy work feed back into and enhance each other.
This brings us to our call for proposals. If you are a researcher who would like to write a post for Briefing Book about a topic in your area of expertise, please send us a proposal. Selected proposals will receive editorial support for production of the proposed post. Here are the details:
Format: Send us a proposal consisting of 1-2 paragraphs describing the topic you want to write about, why it is important, and what the key policy takeaways from your piece would be.
Eligibility: We will consider proposals from researchers at any level of experience without regard for institutional affiliation.
Timing: Review will begin August 17, 2026 and will be conducted on a rolling basis thereafter. Publication of posts based on selected proposals will be scheduled in consultation with authors.
